About Us Christian Home Educators of Macon, Inc. (CHEM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing supplemental classes to home educated children and to supply additional opportunities for children to learn cooperatively in a Christian environment. It is our belief that children can benefit from varied learning experiences and CHEM is a way to accomplish this objective. CHEM began in 1997 with three elementary age classes for a handful of students. Classes are offered based on the subjects parents desire to teach and student interest. We offer classes on eight Fridays in the spring and fall each year. Classes are available for children 5 years old through high school while child care is provided for young children of teachers and other workers during classes. CHEM is coordinated and managed by four homeschool mothers. These women and their responsibilities are: Margaret Ulshafer (Director & Treasurer), Barbara Raines (Registrar), Tracy Johns (Publications & Facility Liaison) and Andrea Maynard (Worker Coordinator). As space allows, any child who is home schooled by a family member (see our Statement of Family) can register for classes on a first-come, first-served basis. Tuition and supply fees are charged for classes; however, the cost is reasonable. We encourage parent participation either in a teaching or helping capacity. If a parent is able to work, tuition fees may be reduced. |
